The natural spaces of the province have become a refuge for those who try to flee from the crowds and the risk of contagion from Covid-19. However, this is also causing problems in some areas. For this reason, the Nerja City Council has decided to close the barrier to the access road to the El Pinarillo municipal recreational area, in the heart of the Sierras Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama natural park, in order to avoid crowds and protect the health people and public health until the risk from the coronavirus pandemic is "adequately" reduced.
The decree of the Mayor's Office, at the proposal of the Councilor for the Environment, establishes the closure of the barrier located in the surroundings of the Cueva de Nerja, a monument that will remain closed, at least until November 24, "without prejudice to the competences that may correspond to other public administrations, especially the Junta de Andalucía, given the location of this area within the Natural Park of the Sierras Tejeda, Alhama and Almijara «, as reported by the City Council in a statement.
The Councilor for the Environment, Javier Rodríguez (PP), has pointed out that "this decision has been made due to the difficulties that, due to the characteristics of this area, present both its vigilance and its cleaning and disinfection necessary for the prevention of infections" . The recreational area of ??El Pinarillo is about six kilometers away from the Cueva de Nerja. It is accessed by a dirt track. It has barbecue areas, toilets and swings. Nearby is the Fuente del Esparto, where there is a municipally-owned rural accommodation, the Casas de Los Mineros, which has been closed for several years.
