Borge celebrates Raisin Day with a claim of its agricultural heritage

The Borge will celebrate this Sunday the XXIV edition of the Day of the Raisin, vindicating the excellence of its agricultural heritage and also its important contribution to the provincial economy. The delegate of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Sustainable Development, Fernando Fernández Tapia-Ruano, said Tuesday in the presentation that this party «is a great way to claim one of our most unique gastronomic products and at the same time continue to make it known for increase your consumption and marketing ».

During the presentation, the delegate of Agriculture has affirmed that the raisin ?has gone from being only agricultural and cultural heritage of a region such as Axarquía, and from a province like Malaga, to becoming world agricultural heritage with its declaration as SIPAM by part of the FAO ?, highlighting that El Borge is the municipality with the highest production of raisins in Spain.

?This grape is very important in our province, because it employs more than 2,000 families in the agricultural sector that maintain farms, in addition to other jobs linked to their use and commercialization, both in fresh grapes and in wine and raisins, with what we could be talking about that around 4,000 families are linked in one way or another with the raisin ?.

The cultivated area of ??vineyards for pasification in the region of Axarquía in recent years has been just under 2,000 hectares, from which an average of 1,200 tons of fresh grapes for pasification are usually obtained, which can be translated into some 300 tons of raisins Almost 90% of our raisins are destined for the national market, mainly in northern Spain, such as Galicia, Asturias and Cantabria, and also exported to Portugal, where there is a lot of consumer tradition, and to a lesser extent to countries such as Switzerland, Germany and Japan

Fernando Fernández Tapia-Ruano has reiterated the commitment of the Ministry of Agriculture with the raisin sector for the promotion of measures that allow this sector to continue growing and expanding its projection, with the creation of a Center for Interpretation of the raisin and with help to develop an action plan, which must have the support of the entire sector, such as associations, Regulatory Council, municipalities and provincial council.

For his part, the mayor of El Borge, Raúl Vallejo (PSOE), said that this party is growing and improving with the support of all the neighbors, highlighting that this year's poster has been created by Malaga artist Ángel Idígoras, habitual cartoonist of Diario SUR. This year, as a novelty, the City Council will distribute a thousand ceramic glasses for wine tasting, and that, at the price of one euro, can be used for tastings but can also be stored as souvenirs, as explained by the mayor, who has added that in this way the consumption of numerous plastic cups will also be avoided, which will result in improvement of the environment.

The City Council has appointed the journalist Montserrat Naharro as Godmother of the Party, while the awards are: Alborgeño of the year, José Antonio Pendón; special distinction in defense of the raisin, José Gutiérrez Castro; special distinction in Communication, Ángel Rodríguez Idígoras; and distinction in defense of tourism, to the Museum of Vélez-Málaga. Throughout the holiday there will be raisin tastings and vintage demonstrations, as well as musical performances of different styles.
