Yesterday the Cave of Nerja celebrated the 61 anniversary of the discovery, on January 12, 1959, with an emotional tribute to the participants in that adventure that transformed our municipality into the cultural, economic and tourist. Francisco Navas, José Torres, Miguel and Manuel Zorrilla, accompanied by the widow of José Luis Barbero, met again, as they do every year, in their traditional appointment with the grotto.
He opened the event, on behalf of the City Council of Nerja, the pediatric mayor of Maro, and a member of the Plenary Board of the Cueva de Nerja Foundation, Nuchi Moreno, who recalled his personal relationship with the discoverers, offering an emotional speech with anecdotes and Experiences with your Mareño neighbors during all these years. He finished his words by inviting everyone to continue enjoying the beauty and grandeur of the interior of the cave.

He closed the event, representing the discoverers, José Torres, who again thanked the samples of affection they continue to receive, while congratulating himself that after so many years the cave continues to receive so many visitors.
