Seabirds and those that live in coastal areas are one of the most fragile links in ecosystems, since they are exposed to constant threats and dangers, among which pollution of their environments stands out. For this reason, the Beaches and Environment areas of the Vélez-Málaga City Council are collaborating in an awareness campaign to alleviate the effects produced by human action on these animals. This was presented by the councilors of these areas, Jesús Pérez Atencia and Antonio Ariza.
In this way, Ariza has assured that «we are talking about a great initiative carried out by a group of ornithologists and marine biologists from Malaga, who have decided to start an awareness campaign to alleviate the effects produced by human action on seabirds and coastal ». ?The campaign aims to inform all citizens about the consequences that bad practices can have on birds and the coastal environment.
Thus, it is intended to reduce the amount of fishing waste on beaches and groynes, raise awareness of this problem in the recreational fishing sector of the province and assist seagulls and other affected seabirds for their recovery and subsequent release, "said the mayor. of the Environment. Antonio Ariza pointed out that ?we hope that you become aware of the damage that can occur and control the entire area of ??use of the beach when you go fishing. We have to thank the person of Rafael Palomo for his initiative, in which we collaborate and we hope that it will take effect within the framework of raising the awareness of the users of our coastline ?.
For this campaign, the mayor explained that they provide "informative posters on this problem with simple instructions that both fishermen and bathers can follow to collaborate with this initiative." "We thank once again the groups involved in it and also all users who attend this initiative," he concluded.
