Maro presents the San Antón program for this weekend

Nerja, January 13, 2020.-

On January 17 and 18, Maro will celebrate the festival of San Antón with a program of activities with which the neighbors celebrate the festivity of their Patron.

The Councilor for Popular Traditions, Elena Gálvez, together with members of the Maro Board of Celebrations, have presented the program, which will begin on Friday 17 at eleven in the morning with the parade in charge of Brasstown, until twelve noon when the Holy Mass will take place in honor of the Patron of Maro. At the end, as is traditional, the blessing of the animals will take place at the door of the church.

At half past eight in the afternoon, San Antón will be processed through the streets, accompanied by the Nerja Music Band and an exhibition of fireworks. This year, the traditional wheels of fire will be lit again at the doors of the houses, to ask the Saint for a good year.

On Saturday the 18th, the flowery target of Brasstown will open the day's activities. At half past six in the afternoon, the lighting of the lights will begin, enlivened by the Peña Mareña Rociero Choir. At half past ten, the lighting of the great municipal fire in the Church Square will take place.

The official booth, located in the square and open from noon, will house the evening's musical performances with the group Al Alba, Playing Air and Christian's dance group. In addition, on Saturday, the prizes of the Maroween 2019 photo contests and the San Antón festival will be presented.

From the Department of Popular Traditions all residents and visitors are invited to come to Maro these days and enjoy this charming holiday.
