The mayor of Nerja, José Alberto Armijo, has met today with the representatives of the José del Peso Foundation, chaired by the parish priest of Nerja, Petre Chelaru, to advance the municipalization project of the church street plot in order to to build the new Municipal Library there. The councilor for Urbanism, Nieves Atencia, also participated, accompanied by the municipal architect, Beatriz Pérez and the lawyer for Urbanism, Mavi Pezzi.
The mayor has informed the Foundation that the urban development file that will enable the construction was definitively approved in the Ordinary Plenary Session in August, an agreement that was published in the Official Gazette of the Province on September 29. The next step will be the initiation of the file that will end with obtaining the plot for this project, which will include the appraisal carried out by the municipal technicians, of which the Foundation will be informed at all times.
The mayor recalled that this project represents a great advance in the quality of the cultural and educational infrastructures of Nerja, giving a formative use to a lot currently used by the municipal cleaning service. This is a project compatible with the Foundation's aims and it will mean that the size of the Library will be considerably increased with respect to the current one, so that new and better services can be offered.
The mayor also reminded the members of the Foundation of the initiative that he raised in the previous meeting, of the incorporation of the City Council to the Foundation, which will make the entity more visible to Nerjeños and Nerjeñas, since until now it is unknown to the majority, and also, will allow the City Council to allocate municipal resources to finance its activities.
