The Association of Women of Benajarafe (Benamujer), the Association of Women of Chilches, the Association Encajes Labores Manualidades Axarquía (AELMA, Chilches), the Asociación Valleniza Rural and the Asociación Plataforma Ciudadana por Benajarafe y Chilches (ByCH), in the western area from the municipality of Vélez-Málaga, have joined forces to manufacture face masks, gowns and sanitary coveralls and for the State Security forces and bodies against coronavirus. The initiative is produced to be able to attend to the current shortages that some health centers and certain security forces are suffering. This was explained by Sergio Yules, spokesman for the platform, who indicated t
For this, the different groups are using material donated by residents of the area and funds from the associations. "We are running out of funds and we are going to launch a crowdfunding campaign," Yules announced.
The residents of these three towns in Vela began to manufacture masks last Friday and today, Monday, they have delivered to the Comarca de la Axarquía Hospital 500 surgeon masks and 100 sanitary monkeys. "Now they have asked us for gowns and sanitary monkeys, and the Syndicate of Police has asked us for masks," he said. The hospital will be in charge of distributing the material to the neediest sectors, especially in nursing homes.
From Benajarafe, Chilches and Valleniza, these five associations will continue collaborating to manufacture sanitary material. "The workforce is provided by our volunteers, the material is being paid for with donations, we hope to launch a crowdfunding shortly to have more resources," said Yules.
Some 60 people who are not in contact participate in the initiative. The platform has a person in each town who collects the material "so that no one comes into contact and we become a focus of contagion."
