Next Saturday, July 13, at 17.30, Nerja will host the XLII Absolute Outdoor Athletics Championship in Andalusia, with the participation of 600 athletes from all over Andalusia. In this way, Nerja once again hosts a key sporting event in the Andalusian competitive calendar.
The Councilor for Sports of the City of Nerja, Daniel Rivas, accompanied by the president of the Andalusian Athletics Federation (FAA), Enrique López Cuenca, presented today in Malaga the championship, along with Luis Diaz, Technical Director of the Sports Service of the Provincial Council.
Díaz has insisted that Nerja is one of the places that gives more impulse to athletics. In addition, "this type of tests reactivates tourism, making Nerja receive about 600 athletes, 45 judges and 70 people of organization among volunteers, technical, computer and administrative personnel, to which all the accompanying persons must be added".
For his part, Daniel Rivas stressed that "we must thank both the Provincial and the FAA have opted for Nerja to enjoy a great championship." "There we have a great base, with many champions that increase the number of athletes who are in the elite." But, in addition, there is the tourist factor: "we have wonderful beaches and the summer is great for this championship because it is perfect for each visitor to enjoy our beaches," he reported.
Likewise, Enrique López Cuenca also thanked the Provincial for his "involvement in the celebration of this event, since in Nerja we are going to dump, as usual in all the events we do, and in this case more, because we will put in value the athletics track of the Ciudad Deportiva de Nerja ".
According to Cuenca, "This serves to corroborate the effervescence and implantation that athletics has in Nerja, a reference club, being in the First National Division, and for Andalusian athletes to achieve their minimum marks with a view to participating in the Spanish championship. Also the elite will face the competition with options to be, at the end of September, in the Doha World Cup (Qatar). " "This Andalusian is the first of those three steps that must be followed in order to be in the world championship; in which we hope to have a good Andalusian representation, "he reported.
From the Department of Sports, all nerjeños and visitors are invited to enjoy, next Saturday, this important athletics championship to be held in our town.
