Óscar J. Ramírez is a family doctor at the Cómpeta health center, although he has not been going to his job for a week. Exactly eight days ago he started to feel bad. Tests were done on Monday to see if he had caught the Covid-19, and the same Tuesday confirmation came. Just today she has started to feel somewhat better, but in the meantime she has had mainly fever, many headaches, dizziness, some nasal congestion and diarrhea for two or three days.
Óscar says that in recent weeks doctors like him have continued to care for people with the corresponding security measures. Still, he believes the contagion occurred earlier, when such measures were not the same as they currently exist. Divorced and with a son that he has not seen for quite a few days, he tells SUR that the worst part of the disease has been suffered only at home.
He believes that what has happened to him will happen to him or is already happening to many of his companions. "There is a lack of masks, of protection measures in general and of tests," he criticizes. Not surprisingly, he admits that the test had to be done at the Regional Hospital because there were "drawbacks" to be able to do it elsewhere.
On the contagion or contagions that he may have caused, he is very direct: «I see fifty patients a day in the consultation. It is impossible for me to get in touch with everyone, "he says. Thus, he relates that he is aware that after him other close colleagues have been infected: the driver of an ambulance and three nurses from his office. Two of them are undiagnosed, and the other two have tested positive. Of course, all five have had the same symptoms, so it assumes that the situation is the same for everyone.
Far from wanting to be a catastrophe, Óscar maintains that there is "a lot of fear in society" because it is a new virus. ?The most vulnerable are elderly patients and those with other complications. I want to be optimistic, that people become aware like now, that they do not leave their house. At some point we will control it if we do things right. " What this doctor does claim is that once the rapid test can be accessed, all the healthcare providers (whether or not they have symptoms) can do it. "So the problem begins to have a solution," he says.
