The project so that the Axarquía has a second marina, on the border between Nerja and Torrox, accumulates more than three decades of unfulfilled promises by the Junta de Andalucía. The new Andalusian bipartite government, of PP and Citizens, has proposed to reactivate this nautical initiative, betting on a public-private financing formula.
Thus, at least, said the Minister of Development, Infrastructure and Land Management of the Board of Andalusia, Marifrán Carazo, on a visit last Monday to the town of Torroxeña, after meeting with the mayor, Oscar Medina (PP), and local government councilors. The head of the Board opted for public-private financing to launch the project of the new marina of the Eastern Axarquia, planned between the municipalities of Torrox and Nerja. The last known initiative, in 2010, set its location in the area of ??the Calaceite beach, with about 500 berths and a necessary investment of around 36 million.
Carazo, who is on vacation in Torrox, met with the governor Torroxeño to address the situation of this infrastructure "after more than twelve years in oblivion." The counselor said, according to a statement from the City Council, that ?it is not acceptable that this project has not had the collaboration of the Junta de Andalucía in all these years, after the illusion that there is throughout the Axarquia for this new port sports".
The head of Public Works has advocated the formula of public-private collaboration and has committed to «being close to the Consistory so that, from institutional loyalty, the project becomes a reality as soon as possible». Carazo recalled that the Public Agency of Ports of Andalusia (APPA) currently manages directly 25 marinas directly and indirectly, by concession, another twelve, to add a total of 37 port facilities in the community.
For his part, the mayor of Torrox said that this port facility constitutes "a historical demand" of the Costa del Sol-Axarquía, where there is a great demand and a single marina in Caleta de Vélez, in the municipality of Vélez-Málaga, Sharing space with the fishing port. Also, the councilor transferred to the counselor the need for the Board and the City Council to collaborate in the planning of urban planning in Torrox to boost the development of the town.
