The City Council will request the declaration of the Living Bethlehem as a Provincial Tourist Singularity Festival

The information commission on Citizenship Services of the Nerja City Council held this morning has unanimously agreed to submit a proposal to the Plenary to request the recognition of the Protected Living Bethlehem, as a Provincial Tourist Singularity Festival.

The living Bethlehem that for years has been celebrated in the neighborhood of "Protected", organized by the neighborhood association with the collaboration of the City Council, transforms the environment of this traditional neighborhood and has the participation of the entire neighborhood. Year after year it is surpassing, counting in this last edition with more than 100 figurants and with an attendance of more than 2,000 people, reason why it has become one of the main attractions of Nerjeña Christmas.

It has been unanimously decided that the proposal, which has been presented by the Mayor, the Councilor for Popular Traditions and the spokeswoman for the municipal group of the PP, has an institutional character and is raised to Plenary as an initiative of the spokesmen of all the parties represented in City Hall.

In the same proposal, the Nerja City Council adheres to the request made by the Spanish Federation of Belenistas for the declaration of Belenism as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, for which the Junta de Andalucía is urged to declare it Well of Intangible Cultural Interest of Andalusia, since it is the previous and necessary step for the processing.
