The Municipal Covered Pavilion Rubén Ruzafa of Torre de Benagalbón became yesterday the venue for the meeting of the participating centers in the STARS project for the promotion of sustainable mobility. The meeting brought together more than a hundred schoolchildren who mostly went by bicycle. The councilor of Mobility and Transport in functions, Antonio Manuel Rando (PP), explained that «all these centers have carried out different actions and activities in their centers during the school year and yesterday had the opportunity to interact with the rest of the participants of the project» .
The acting mayor of Rincon de la Victoria, Francisco Salado (PP) has highlighted "the acceptance of this program among schools that promote a sustainable transport culture." «This government is still committed to initiatives like these that are viable thanks to the involvement of the municipal areas of Sustainable Mobility, Education and Security, the educational community, DGT, etc».
The activity also had the largest bus to date in the municipality, with approximately 90 students who traveled by bicycle to the pavilion accompanied by the Local Police and Civil Protection. The four participating centers were: CEIP Josefina Aldecoa, CEIP Laza Palacio, La Marina College and CEIP Professor Tierno Galván. The students participated in different workshops and games in which they counted on the collaboration of local businesses such as Triaworld and the dance school Anímate a bailar; in addition to the company Green Globe, coordinator of the STARs project in Rincón de la Victoria.
The implementation of the project "Road School in Route" began two school years ago and the adhesion of the municipality to the STARS Network of Cities nationwide about a year ago. On May 29, a plenary session for children was held at the City Hall of Rincón de la Victoria, where the students transferred their requests for sustainable mobility to the mayor.
The six educational centers that have participated this year are CEIP Manuel Laza Palacio, Virgen de la Candelaria, Professor Tierno Galván, María del Mar Romera, La Marina, and Josefina Aldecoa. Rincón de la Victoria was a pioneer in joining the STARS educational project of European origin and endorsed by the Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) for the promotion of active and sustainable mobility among the educational community of the municipality.
During these last years, the students of the participating centers have made school paths, where the students have met at different meeting points to arrive together by bicycle or on foot to their corresponding centers. In addition, during the course the students have prepared a plan of activities with a plan of the actions to be carried out and have held different meetings in which they have analyzed the points to improve in terms of roads, access and mobility in schools.
