The El Morche Neighborhood Association was founded a year ago with the objective of preserving and maintaining the identity and history of this coastal core of Torrox with more than 500 years of existence. Among its most important claims is that the Administration recognizes this area again with its own denomination, unlike what has happened for more than two decades, since in the early 1990s the recognition as a Singular Population Entity disappeared part of the National Statistics Institute (INE).
The group held its annual general meeting last Friday night. The inclement weather was not an impediment for a hundred members of the association to meet and hold a meeting in which they set their priorities for the coming months. As reported in a statement, the assembly began by explaining the work agenda carried out to achieve the four objectives that this association set in November last year when it began its journey: the aforementioned correct administrative identification of El Morche with its geographical limits based on historical studies, "decent sports facilities, conservation and proper maintenance of the beaches that a tourist resort deserves first order and the need
"It has been a very intense year and we have achieved that our demands reach the institutions and more specifically the people who can solve it, although the agility in the answers is not being the desired one," said Irene Bueno, president of the association, " We think that many times they try to make us dizzy and want us to get tired of fighting for our rights, "he said. In this sense, the partners expressed their conviction that "when the deadlines set by the institutions expire or the administrative silence is prolonged, seek other means of claims at other levels."
"During this year we have had to stand for those who do not want to understand our speech to be branded as independentistas, but if they attend to our words, they would clearly see that we only want to preserve the identity of El Morche as a town within the municipality of Torrox and that the administrative error that makes us identify today as Torrox-Costa instead of our real name, which is El Morche, "said Herrero, a member of the association.
"After such a positive meeting, the association's board of directors is supported to continue working to fight the objectives set and to be a transmitter of the voice and needs of the people of El Morche," concluded the association's treasurer, Manuel Barranco, who also thanked the partners for their collaboration in this project.
