The Court of First Instance and Instruction number 1 of Torrox has issued a car ordering the opening of an oral trial against the mayor of Nerja, José Alberto Armijo (PP), and his councilor for Urban Planning and Housing, Nieves Atencia (PP) , as well as against seven businessmen in the construction sector for the case of the illegal landfill of the Río de la Miel, which operated irregularly between June 1998 and September 2016. The prosecutor last February requested a sentence of two years in prison and 18 months of disqualification for the Nerja councilor for these events, who returned to office in June 2019, after the last legislature in which he was in opposition. Armijo was previously mayor of Nerja between 1995 and 2015.
