The plenary session of the City Council of Rincón de la Victoria held yesterday approved unanimously the proposal presented by the Department of Social Welfare to urge the Government of Spain to accelerate the implementation of the National Plan for Alzheimer's and other dementias 2019 -2023, as reported by the second deputy mayor and councilor in the area, Elena Aguilar (Cs). The document also includes that the final approval to the Congress of Deputies be carried out, once the General State Budgets are approved and that they contemplate the specific item of financing that the Plan needs.
The councilor for Social Welfare explained that "the Association of Alzheimer's Caregivers and Patients (Asalbez) was the one who asked me about the possibility of promoting this proposal, raising it to plenary session to make it institutional with the consensus of the municipal corporation, to seek a response swift implementation of this Plan that allows greater coverage to be given to people affected by dementia in general, and in particular Alzheimer's disease, who have come to be considered a major health problem. ?
According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 35 million people in the world suffer from some type of dementia. Alzheimer's disease is the leading cause of dementia (up to 70%) in developed countries. Aguilar has reiterated his commitment and support to family members and the association, valuing "the important work they carry out with the users who come to the center daily".
The councilor maintains a direct collaboration with the Asalbez Association, through its president, María Jesús Román, and members of the group, with periodic meetings to establish and develop joint lines of work to improve the service and quality of life of its users. and relatives. With regard to the institutional approval of the proposal, the President of Asalbez has said that ?it means taking another step towards achieving a fairer situation for Alzheimer's patients, at the hands of our municipality, a city in solidarity with Alzheimer's, which always supports our demands, hoping that it will be a reality as soon as possible ».
The Association of Relatives and Patients with Alzheimer's Bezmiliana works in favor of Alzheimer's patients and their caregivers, offering them information and guidance and holding different workshops aimed at the patients themselves to slow down the progression of the disease. They have cognitive, behavioral and sensory workshops from Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Currently the Association has a hundred members, four workers and about twenty volunteers. ASALBEZ headquarters is located at Paseo de la Marina, 5, Torre de Benagalbón.
