The Vélez-Málaga City Council has today started cleaning the streets of the main towns of the municipality with disinfectant, for which a cuba truck, a high-pressure cleaner and various machinery from the Althenia cleaning company are being used. In addition, "there is a commitment by the company itself to continue adding machinery in the coming days with the sole purpose of carrying out a broader action", as reported by the First Deputy Mayor of the City Council and Councilor for Beaches, Jesús Pérez Atencia , and the Councilor for the Environment, Antonio Ariza.
Pérez Atencia has indicated that "we are in a very difficult moment where no effort should be spared to combat COVID-19". Thus, "from the Department of Beaches and Environment we are going to work with the means that we have and in agreement with other delegations to try to alleviate the impact of the coronavirus in our municipality in this way."
He also pointed out that «the streets are going to be cleaned with an urban biological cleaner, commonly used for street cleaning, cleaning of waste tanks and containers, purification systems, type 'scrubbers' and washing towers for the removal of particles and gases generated in industrial processes. On the other hand, it will be mixed with sodium hypochlorite, which is a disinfectant and will act on hypothetical sources of contamination.
It is a joint initiative with the Department of Environment and Sustainability, which "in the last few hours has evaluated the different options and as of this morning they are proceeding to wash down the main urban centers of the municipality," said Atencia.
